This post was published 3 years 2 months 29 days ago and as such probably does not reflect my current opinions, knowledge or ability.I guess very few people have seen KCNB in its original form. If you’re interested in some of the previous (hideous) themes from the site, I’ve stuck them up on my portfolio in the section titled “Web Development”.
Probably the most interesting is the theme that almost came into being this time around:
I’m still trying to find the source code for the terrible blogging/forum software I wrote before – I know it’s archived somewhere. I’ll get it up here too if I can get hold of it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ugh that thing is hideous! I mean, if I were 8 I’d think it’s the coolest thing ever, but now that I’ve seen lots of music videos I know what style is.
I still have no idea why I made a pink theme >.>
I liked the typefaces used on the pink theme, esp. the one for the title.
From what I’ve seen, to get one good design out, people have to experiment a lot even when they know what they’re doing. Simplicity is only obvious after it’s been achieved, it seems.
Simplicity isn’t necessarily simple though – the best minimal themes out there have perfect positioning and gorgeous pixel level work. That doesn’t just take a lot of time from a design perspective, it’s far more challenging from a CSS perspective too.
